Meenakshi Amman Temple- Madurai
We booked an Ola cab to the most famous Meenakshi Amman temple
Kulasekara Pandya built this temple during the Pandya dynasty. Goddess Parvati is the main deity here. The eyes of the deity are in the shape of a fish hence the name.
Needless to say, the temple is an architectural marvel. We were awestruck looking at the sculpture , precision of the carvings, and the intricate details in paintings. Within the temple premises, is the 1000 pillar mandapam.
Lockers are available in the west and north towers of the temple. We can leave phones in the locker. Temple timings are 5 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 9pm
Avoid Fridays and April month as it would be quite crowded
Koodal Azhagar temple:
Just a kilometer from Meenakshi Amman temple is Koodal Azhagar temple.
You can visit from 7 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 7.30 pm.
Lord Vishnu is the main deity of this temple. It is believed that Pandyas have built this temple.
There are many restaurants, fancy stores, and Jigarthanda stalls in this area. I bought some bangles from the store and we returned to the hotel
