Cauvery Nisargadhama – Coorg
Coorg trip is not complete without Nisargadhama. This place has a lot to offer, where you can walk with your family surrounded by bamboo trees, a deer park a bird park, and lot of activities for adventure lovers
Timings : 9am to 5pm Entrance ticket : 10 per person
The hanging bridge
There is a man-made hanging rope bridge to cross the river Kavery. Once you reach the other side it is lush green bamboo groves.
Bamboo groves
It was almost noon when we reached but it was still shady because of the number of trees.
You could also see sculptures depicting Coorg’s traditional dressing , livelihood, food habits etc.
Deer park
Then we saw the direction board for a deer park. The fence was medium-high and we were watching the deer herd lying under a tree.
We were quite disappointed that we are not able to watch it closely and as we were about to leave one of the deer, walked towards us and stood near the fence for us to take pictures:)
Bird park
Ticket price 30 per person
Ticket price varies depending on whether you want to just visit the bird park or if you want to feed the birds or pose pictures with macaws.
I took Rs30 ticket to feed the birds. The caretaker offered me grains, and before i even raised my hand, three-four birds flew to my hand and started pecking not only the grains but also my dress 😀
There was an ongoing fight between the birds as they were trying to eat from the other’s mouth instead of taking it from my hand. One was climbing on my shoulder and I could hear giggles from other tourists as the birds were pecking their hair. Pretty much all were laughing as the birds kept tickling everyone and were flying from one person to another as and when the grains were getting over.
The caretaker provided a refill once. The total experience would be about 15 mins.
Other activities
There are also some adventurous activities available although we didn’t take them. There is a zip line, boating, and elephant rides available. But each of these activities are charged separately. Cottages are also available for those wanting to stay for a couple of days.
If planning for a one-time stop like us this place is suitable for that long pending walk in nature with the family.
