Abbi falls – Coorg

Abbi falls or Abbey falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Coorg. The distance between Madikeri, a town in Coorg, and Abbi falls is around 7 km.

It was almost noon when we reached Abbi falls. There was a slight drizzle but fortunately, we had umbrellas.

We need to walk down 150 to 200 steps from the main entrance to reach the falls. Elders might find it a little bit difficult. Due to rain, the steps were slightly slippery. There is fence on both sides of the path.

Surrounded by coffee and spice plantations, walk towards the falls was equally enjoyable.

Few benches are placed if we need to take rest. Since it was raining, we did not halt in between.

After twenty-minute walk, we were able to hear the sound of water gushing.

As we were getting nearer the sound was also getting higher. Cascading from a height of 70 feet it was such a spectacular sight. Would suggest reaching as early as possible to avoid the rush. Everyone was busy taking selfies and group pictures. And it was a never-ending process. Finding a spot where there is no general public was next to impossible. Hence most of our pictures have someone next to or behind us.

When to visit:

Since we visited during October it is within the peak season the water flow was quite strong. So do ensure to visit between September to December.

The water from the falls flows down into a stream and merges with the river Kavery. It is prohibited to bathe in the falls.

There is a broken hanging bridge that was previously used as a viewpoint. Now it is restricted.

After taking sufficient pictures we enjoyed the view for a while and returned.

You would be able to spend at least an hour here. Shops are available outside the entrance to buy water and snacks.
