Temples to visit in Coorg
Serene and beautiful viewpoints, lush green coffee estates, adventurous activities, pilgrimage centers etc. Coorg is one of the very few places where it has something to offer to everyone.
Talacauvery temple:
River Kaveri is one of the seven sacred rivers of India. Talacauvery is believed to be the origin of the river Kaveri. Located on the Brahmagiri hills and 48kms from Madikeri this place attracts several tourists during October on Sankramana day. We started around 7 am from the resort. The way from Madikeri to talacauvery is very scenic with several small streams, paddy fields, and mountains. It was slightly drizzling as well. It took one and half hours to reach the temple.
Temple timings are from 6.30 am to 6.30 pm. The dress code of the temple should also be strictly followed – three fourth or capris are not allowed.
There are small shops near the entrance. There are a few steps to enter the temple but not too steep, elders would be able to climb. Once we enter we would be able to hear chanting by priests. There is a temple tank and pooja is performed to goddess Kavery. It is believed that Kavery river originates as a spring and fills the tank.
The water of Kavery is believed to have healing powers and removes emotional and physical distress. It is a very spacious and well-maintained temple.
From Talacauvery to Bhagmandala it is 7 kms and would take about 14 mins . The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva.
Temple timings are 6am to 7 pm.
