Coorg – shopping

On the way from Talacauvery to Madikeri, there are several shops where we could buy spices, wine, and coffee. We requested cab driver to stop at a good place for shopping, he took us to “Kodagu coffee growers co-operative society “. It’s a supermarket with a wide range of products.

As Coorg is known for its huge coffee estates we wanted to buy some coffee powder. Green tea is also available, although we didn’t buy it.

Then we moved to our favorite section -chocolates!! Staffs gave us few samples for tasting. Assorted chocolate boxes are also available.
We liked coffee bean chocolates. It is basically small roasted coffee bean coated with chocolate, giving it a bitter-sweet taste.

The next section is for homemade wines – you read that right! Wines are available in almost all the shops. But these wines are not fermented for long time hence there is no alcohol content. These wines have maximum of 3 to 4 months ageing. There are different flavors of wine like -coffee, fig, ginger etc. with different price variants. We tried few samples and bought the classic grape wine.

Skin and hair care products, eucalyptus, spices, etc. are also available. We bought small sachets of spices and completed our shopping.

There are local shopping areas in Kushal Nagar and Friday market. Coorg is also popular for fresh honey and oranges.
