Big cup Cafe -Coorg, and coffee making process

Big cup cafe is one of the most popular cafes in Coorg , situated in Mysore- Madikeri road right next to Woodstock resort . If you find some time in the evening after visiting all the places do try to visit this cafe.

Sampigekatte, Madikeri – Mysore Road, Madikeri, Karnataka 571201

Surrounded by coffee plants the cafe has a very pleasant and cozy ambience. In front of the cafe there is a big white cup as the name suggests.

Filter coffee and snacks:

We scanned the menu and ordered kodagu filter coffee , hot chocolate, ice cream coffee, peri peri french fries and assorted veg bruschetta.

Kodagu filter coffee came with a traditional dabara set. It was medium strong with wonderful aroma. French fries and bruschetta was very tasty and got over so fast. We were also yearning for something hot and spicy to enjoy coorg climate. Ice cream coffee and warm chocolate milk was rich and creamy.

From bean to cup:

Inside the cafe there is a small glass room for roastery. The green coffee beans are roasted and grounded in this room. We were interested in knowing the whole process. We requested the staffs and they gladly took us inside the roastery room and the owner himself explained the whole process.

“Germination of coffee seeds or bean take up to 60 days and the plant typically grows upto 8 inches tall. It will take upto 2-4 years for the coffee plant to start blooming. Small white fragrant flowers appears and after few days of pollination will start to grow fruits. The berries turn color from green to yellow and finally to red. The harvested red berries are hulled, pulped, washed and dried. The beans are roasted at high temperature and then finally grounded. Each way of brewing brings unique flavor to the coffee. Aroma, color ,weight and flavor are the most important part of coffee tasting experience. “

After knowing the entire process we now appreciate coffee even better. Good food ,warm hospitality and cozy ambience, makes this place worth visiting.
